What is stock trading?
Before you invest in online stock trading, it’s important to understand what it is. Some companies are publicly traded, which means they issue shares that people can buy and subsequently sell. The company raises capital without incurring debt and buyers own a bit of the company in the hope that it will increase in value and make them a profit when they sell.
How does stock trading work?
Most trading happens in Stock Exchanges, with online stock trading gradually replacing the chaotic floor scenes you may have seen on TV. Transactions are very similar to an auction, so supply and demand determine the price of a company’s shares. There’s also a less regulated “over-the-counter” process for shares of companies that don’t meet the criteria to be listed elsewhere but that’s probably not for the novice.
